STORYLINE:
The capital city of Malaysia serves as the country’s financial center, with an estimated population of over 2 million people.
Kuala Lumpur spans over 240 square kilometers, or about 150 miles.
Officially known as the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur, it is one of the fastest growing cities in Southeast Asia.
The main feature of Kuala Lumpur is its many skyscrapers dotting the landscape. The most iconic is the Petronas Twin Towers, which was completed in 1996 – to date, it is still one of the tallest sets of twin buildings in the world.
The National Palace is where Malaysia’s king resides and conducts his official duties.
Kuala Lumpur also boasts dozens of other unique skyscraper buildings, including the newly minted Merdeka 118 tower, which is ranked the second-tallest building in the world after Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.
Kuala Lumpur is also known as a shopping and culinary destination for tourists, especially in the area known as Bukit Bintang, where street food and many shopping malls attract tourists from abroad.
The History of Kuala Lumpur started as a tin mining settlement, but it soon grew into a thriving city. In 1957, it became the capital of the federation of Malaya and its successor Malaysia.
Although the seat of government was relocated to Putrajaya in 1999, Kuala Lumpur still remains a most important city in Malaysia.
