"So a number of years ago, actually over 8 years ago, the community went down the path the city starting the project of looking for grant money to support a large scale community solar array alongside a battery energy storage system, that could potentially offset a lot of diesel that is burned in our powerhouse to provide electricity for the community."

"I have to go through and get diesel for myself from here and then, which is pretty pricey, about like 8 (USD) something a gallon, which is kind of absurd for city prices. And yeah, it’s really exciting to see this (will) help out the community a lot."

"SEGA started more than 10 years ago as a non-profit with its primary function to provide renewable resource biomass material to the school district to heat their campus buildings for the boarding school that’s here in the former Air Force base. So we heat those buildings with chipped birch trees for a big biomass boiler plant and that offsets a tremendous amount of diesel."

"As high schoolers that are about to get into the real world and be consumers and just wanting to live their life, money talks. If you as a community go in and you get solar you can get some wind, you know, you have invested in your community, your community owns that infrastructure, and now that infrastructure is providing you the power at no cost. And then on top of that, you then could get a job working on maintaining, repairing, building these projects. So it’s this total big flip that can arise because of some of these projects."

"The funding scenario is troubling currently for renewable energy or that are climate or environment related right now. But these things come and go, we’ll be here, and just do our best to keep moving forward.”
