1. Air defence systems intercepting projectiles
STORYLINE:
Sirens sounded across Tel Aviv early Wednesday morning as air defence systems intercepted projectiles that were fired at Israel.
Israel has been hitting Iran with airstrikes and drones, while Iran has been firing a wave of missiles at Israel over the past several days.
The tit-for-tat strikes began when Israel attacked Iran over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, and the fighting has raised fears of a wider, more dangerous regional war.
Israel says its sweeping assault is necessary to prevent its adversary from getting any closer to building an atomic weapon. The strikes have killed at least 224 people in Iran.
Iran has retaliated by launching some 400 missiles and hundreds of drones at Israel. So far, 24 people have been killed in Israel.
The dayslong attacks between the two bitter enemies have opened a new chapter in their turbulent recent history. Many in the region fear a wider conflict as they watch waves of attacks across their skies every night.
