STORYLINE:
Israel’s air defense intercepted missiles fired from Iran over Tel Aviv early on Thursday as the two countries continued to exchange airstrikes and missiles.
On Wednesday, intense Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran’s capital a day after U.S. President Donald Trump demanded “unconditional surrender.”
Iran launched a small barrage of missiles at Israel with no reports of casualties.
A spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry warned that any American intervention in the ongoing Israeli strikes targeting his country would spark “an all-out war" in the region.
Uncertainty continues to roil the region as Israel continues its air campaign aimed at Iran’s military and nuclear program.
Israel says its sweeping assault is necessary to prevent its adversary from getting any closer to building an atomic weapon.
Israeli strikes on Iran have killed at least 585 people and wounded 1,326 others, a human rights group said Wednesday.
The Washington-based group Human Rights Activists offered the figures, which covers the entirety of Iran. It said of those dead, it identified 239 civilians and 126 security force personnel being killed.
