STORYLINE:
Iranians and foreign citizens on Friday were seen crossing the land border from northern Iran to the Armenian town of Meghri.
"Tehran is a little bit scary right now. People are getting out very fast," a man crossing the border told the Associated Press. Many crossing the border reported hearing or witnessing explosions in Iran.
Local residents said that prices for taxis have sky rocketed due to the number of people crossing the border amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
"They have increased (prices) by 100%. It is not the right thing to do," said a local resident.
Iranian Consul General to Armenia Morteza Abedin Varamin visited the border area in Meghri and stated that most of the people crossing the border "are just travellers."
"We had about 20 planes going to Armenia weekly, but because of the conflict, these flights have been cancelled. We expect to help around 300 hundred people travel daily who are intending to go to different countries through Armenia," he said.
Those who remain in the city seem to largely be choosing to stay indoors as the tensions between Israel and Iran continue.
