STORYLINE:
Colourful yoga mats lined the grounds at an iconic limestone cave temple in Malaysia on Saturday, as more than 1,000 yoga enthusiasts participated in a bend-and-stretch session to celebrate International Yoga Day.
The annual event at the Batu Caves, a popular tourist attraction and site of Hindu festivals on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, was organized by the High Commission of India.
Flanked by a giant golden statue of a Hindu God and rainbow-colored steps leading to the temple cave, yogis of all ages including children performed a series of seated and standing poses against breathtaking views.
Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia Bahvesh N. Reddy said that this event is to create awareness among people about the benefits of Yoga.
Meanwhile many first time Yoga enthusiasts took the opportunity to attend this event.
Twenty-seven-year-old Thivagar Raj from Kuala Lumpur said that yoga is important to help relax the mind.
Since its proposal and subsequent United Nations adoption in 2014, annual events known as International Day of Yoga is celebrated on the 21st of June each year.
