And somebody found him, and the cage is completely ruined. And they start asking- somebody lost a bird? And I didn’t know that it’s mine, because I wasn’t at home. STORYLINE:
Hours after the U.S. struck three nuclear sites in Iran, Iran launched more than 40 missiles towards Israel on Sunday morning, injuring 23 people and destroying apartment buildings and homes in three cities across Israel.
Iranian missiles damaged the homes of hundreds of people in Tel Aviv on Sunday morning, the city deputy mayor Haim Goren said.
Residents sat with their pets and suitcases stuffed with belongings outside the buildings.
Strikes have displaced more than 9,000 people from their homes, according to a military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with military regulations.
Missiles have damaged 240 residential buildings, including more than 2,000 individual apartments.
Mira Goshen, 79, said her entire apartment in Tel Aviv was destroyed.
“The mamad was shaking like a leaf, and I thought it was the end of the world,” Goshen said, referring to the reinforced safe rooms that are required in all new buildings. She said the fact that they were inside the shelter saved their lives. The reinforced rooms stood intact amidst rubble of entire homes that were flattened.
Goshen’s pet bird, Chica, was in her cage on the balcony during the siren, fell 11 floors but was rescued by emergency workers after escaping the destroyed cage.
Hours after the impact, Chica was still snuggled into Goshen’s neck as Goshen wandered around next to her building, where municipality workers had set up a temporary situation room to assist people, handing out sandwiches and water.
Multiple businesses on a nearby street had their windows blown out, with piles of glass surrounding children’s clothes and books. Workers were quickly installing temporary protection and trying to salvage any non-damaged goods.
