“For me, it was pretty much the main focus was learning to listen more. Because a lot of times we go into situations and you feel like you’ve already have handled this type of situation so many times and that you already know what the outcome is going to be and what the person’s problem is and a lot of times we go into it with that mentality rather than actually hearing them out and realizing that every situation is different to each person that’s handling that situation at the time.”

“Also, part of the Policing Leadership Academy, the end of the program, the requirement is that you’ll present a capstone project. For my project I decided to focus on reducing the incidents of property crime in the third district. In my short time here, I realized pretty quickly that while we don’t have the level of violence that a lot of the city has, we do have a higher level of property crime that we see.”

“Looking at the different ways to address that mainly focusing on the problem places where these issues are occurring and the problem people meaning the prolific offenders. One of the other methods we use is every two weeks, I test my crime prevention team with identifying hotspots where we see the uptick in the theft from autos or the car thefts. And then going out to those areas with prevention flyers and placing them on vehicles, placing them in doors.”
