“Well, I think it’s a good day to visit the zoo any day. We have tons of indoor buildings that do have air conditioning, really great lemonade for refreshment. And you will see animals doing things they wouldn’t a while. Our African plains animals, this is what they love to do. They love to wallow in the mud. Giraffe, their feed is open to go visit. So it depends on our guests and what they feel comfortable with. But we have a lot of people here today, and it’s always a good day for the zoo ”

STORYLINE:
Extensive triple digit heat, broken temperature records and oppressive humidity piled up into a steaming mess as the heat dome crushing the Eastern half of the nation sizzled to what should be its worst Tuesday.
According to US National Weather Service, the temperature measure this afternoon at the Philadelphia International Airport has reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius) – the first time in 13 years.
As a sweltering heatwave blankets the city, staff at Philadelphia zoo are providing special summer treats and refreshing activities to help animals beat the heat.
Otters were treated to frozen "fishcicles," with fish placed inside frozen feeding balls. Staff says it’s fun and engaging way for them to enjoy a meal while cooling down. The goats got their special fruit pops while tortoises are finding respite from the intense sun under shady areas, with staff providing them with cooling mists of water.
Despite the warning of dangerously hot and humid, visitors remained determined to enjoy their day.
The current forecast shows that the intense heat will persist through Wednesday. A noticeable break in the weather is expected to arrive on Thursday and Friday.
