STORYLINE:
The head of the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog visited the Elysee Palace in Paris on Wednesday for a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, and Macron did not address media inside the meeting room.
It comes after Macron attended the annual NATO summit at The Hague where the 32 leaders endorsed a final summit statement which said "allies commit to invest 5% of GDP annually on core defense requirements as well as defense and security-related spending by 2035 to ensure our individual and collective obligations".
At the summit, Macron told reporters he would discuss his assessment of damage to Iran’s nuclear facilities, after the strikes by the U.S. and Israel, with Grossi during the meeting.
The Associated Press understands the pair also addressed ways to strengthen compliance with international non-proliferation standards and the President reaffirmed his support for IAEA in its efforts to ensure nuclear safety and security worldwide.
