"Just as Israel is claiming victory in its war against Iran, the country has received a tough new reminder that the war in Gaza continues to grind on. Israelis woke to the news that 7 soldiers were killed in an explosion in the southern Gaza Strip. This was the deadliest single incident for the army in months. At the same time, Palestinians have been reporting dozens of people being killed each day as they try to collect food in Gaza. They say the Israeli army is opening fire at crowds of people. The army says it only opens fire when it sees people acting suspiciously, but that death toll continues to grow each day. Now President Donald Trump played a key role in forging this ceasefire between Israel and Iran, and now there are hopes in Israel, especially among families of hostages still held in Gaza and across Gaza, that Trump can use that same magic that he can use his influence to forge another ceasefire and bring an end to more than 20 months of fighting."

STORYLINE:
Israel on Wednesday reported one of its deadliest days in Gaza in months as its military said seven soldiers were killed when a Palestinian attacker attached a bomb to their armored vehicle.
The attack on the Israeli troops, which occurred on Tuesday, quickly drew the nation’s attention back to the grinding conflict with the Hamas militant group after nearly two weeks of war between Israel and Iran.
Meanwhile health officials in the Gaza Strip said Israeli attacks killed 79 people over the past day.
Among the 79 reported killed in Gaza were 33 people who died while trying to access aid.
Palestinian witnesses and health officials say Israeli forces have repeatedly opened fire on crowds heading toward desperately needed food, killing hundreds in recent weeks.
The military says it has fired warning shots at people it said approached its forces in a suspicious manner.
Israel has been fighting in Gaza since the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. U.S.-led ceasefire efforts have repeatedly stalled.
With a fragile ceasefire holding between Israel and Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump said there has been “great progress” in Gaza ceasefire talks, without elaborating.
