Beersheba, Israel – 26 June 2025
1. Various of partly destroyed building at Soroka Medical Center hit by an Iranian missile
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Huckabee, U.S. Ambassador to Israel:
"What is no less than a miracle is that the damage that is done did not deter this hospital and its staff from continuing to take care of an extraordinary over 1000 patients. The brilliance of moving them prior to the missile coming, getting them out of a building that would have been the result of hundreds perhaps, of deaths had they been in the facility that they were in one day before the missile hit."
3. Mid of damaged building
4. Pan right of damaged building and crane
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Huckabee, U.S. Ambassador to Israel:
"It’s also a reminder that when the Iranians targeted various places in Israel, they targeted places like the most significant medical center in all of the southern part of the country. A medical center that not only takes care of Israelis and Jews but takes care of Palestinians and many Muslims as well. It is a reminder that there was no sense of making this only about military targets, it was intended to inflict damage as much as possible to civilian targets."
6. Mid of workers fixing damage
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Huckabee, U.S. Ambassador to Israel:
"Only Hamas can really answer when they decide that they are finished creating havoc, pain and torture on innocent people, then it will end and I think everyone in the world wants it to end, wanted it to end 620 days ago. And so let’s hope and pray that this long nightmare is soon to be over but the President has made clear, Hamas has no future there, they can’t stay. Leaving Hamas in place, leaving them in power would be as ridiculous as having left the Nazis in control of Germany at the end of World War II. That’s why the President’s message should be listened to and Hamas should listen very carefully."
8. Wide of workers and crane in front of damaged building
STORYLINE:
On Thursday. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee visited the hospital that was hit by an Iranian missile earlier this week
The missile damaged Soroka Medical Center’s surgical ward in Beersheba, Israel, on 19 June.
Hospital staff said several dozen people were lightly injured, adding that most patients had already been moved to safe spaces.
Israel launched a surprise barrage of attacks on sites in Iran on June 13, saying it could not let Tehran develop atomic weapons and feared it was close to doing so. Iran has long maintained that its program is peaceful.
After the two nations volleyed strikes for several days, a fragile ceasefire now appears to be holding.
If it does, it will provide a global sense of relief after the U.S. intervened by dropping bunker-buster bombs on nuclear sites over the weekend.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s involvement in securing a ceasefire between Israel and Iran has also given many hostage families hope that he might exert more pressure for a deal in Gaza.
Talking about a possible deal to end the war in Gaza, Huckabee said that "only Hamas can really answer when they decide that they are finished creating havoc, pain and torture on innocent people, then it will end and I think everyone in the world wants it to end, wanted it to end 620 days ago”.
