“Everybody assured us that the (Evin) prison wouldn’t be bombed and on Monday at around 11am, we saw the pictures of bombardments on Evin prison. It’s all we feared for the past ten days. We feared that Cecile and Jacques, and the prisoners and civilians who share their fate, would die under the bombs.”

“We don’t have any sign of life from Cecile and Jacques since May 30th, during the last visit by (French) consulate representatives. Nobody, whether it is us, the families or the French authorities, has been able to get in direct contact with them. The (French) minister (of foreign affairs) Jean-Noel Barrot said on Monday evening that Cecile and Jacques wouldn’t have been hit by the bombings. He used the conditional tense, rightly so in our opinion simply because they have this information from the Iranian authorities, and the word of the Iranian authorities – we are well placed to know it for more than 3 years now – is far from being a guarantee.”

STORYLINE:
The families of two French nationals held hostage by the Iranian regime for over three years say they fear for the life of their loved ones after the Israeli bombing of Evin Prison and are demanding their urgent release.
Cecile Kohler, a 40-year-old teacher, and her partner Jacques Paris, 72, were arrested in Iran on May 7, 2022.
They have been detained since then on spying charges, which they have vehemently denied.
The notorious Evin prison in Tehran was bombed during Israeli strikes on Monday May 23rd, 2025.
Evin prison is known for holding dual nationals and Westerners often used by Iran as bargaining chips in negotiations with the West.
During a press conference in Paris on Friday, Anne-Laure Paris, daughter of Jacques Paris, said she fears for the life of her father and doesn’t know where he currently is.
She called for their immediate release, saying it is was "life-threatening emergency" situation.
