STORYLINE:
A simple floral dress – but with royal pedigree. It once was owned by Diana, Princess of Wales.
It was one of more than 200 fashionable items up for bids at the ‘Princess Diana’s Style & A Royal Collection’ auction at The Peninsula Beverly Hills.
The winning $400,000 bid for the dress came from Renae Plant, co-founder and curator of the virtual and interactive museum, “The Princess Diana Museum.” Plant was jubilant after her purchase, pounding her fists in the air and collapsing on the auction floor in joy.
Also auctioned were Chanel shoes and Prada handbags, while many of the clothes up for auction were worn by Diana for public appearances.
Over the years her sense of style changed as she became a confident public figure, leaving behind the shy 20 year-old who married the future British king.
Decades after her death, the market for Diana’s clothes is booming.
