"In a 6-3 ruling with the conservative justices in the majority, the Supreme Court limited the ability of individual judges to issue nationwide or universal injunctions that apply to everybody, everywhere in the United States. The court ruled in a case involving President Donald Trump’s executive order that would change birthright citizenship to deny citizenship to the U.S.-born children of parents who are in the country illegally or just temporarily."

"It’s not clear when we will know whether the birthright citizenship order will take effect anywhere. But nothing will happen for at least 30 days under the terms of Justice (Amy Coney) Barrett’s majority opinion. What we can expect is that lower courts that have previously ruled on birthright citizenship will now reconsider their orders and, if necessary, tailor them to comply with the Supreme Court decision. Already, immigrants’ rights groups have filed a new amended complaints, trying to find a different way to protect their clients, as well as other women who may be pregnant and are not here in the United States legally."
