STORYLINE:
A fire erupted on Sunday in a Baghdad hotel that hosted the Arab League Summit last month, leaving some of the top floors visibly charred and damaged.
There were no casualties from the flames, which were caused by an electric short circuit.
The blaze was extinguished by firefighters.
The Heart of the World is a luxury hotel in Baghdad’s Jadiriyah district.
Iraq has experienced multiple tragedies from fires in recent years, including a deadly blaze that raced through a hall hosting a Christian wedding in 2023.
The inferno at the wedding left nearly 100 people dead.
In 2021, a fire that swept through a hospital’s coronavirus ward left 92 dead.
