The Democratic Republic of Congo remembers its founding father, Patrice Lumumba, who would have been a hundred years old this week.
Patrice Lumumba was born in Belgian Congo 100 years ago, when decolonization was still merely a dream. Lumumba changed that: He led the Congolese National Movement – the country’s first political party dedicated to independence – and became the Congo’s first prime minister. But just months after being elected, he was assassinated.
His daughter Juliana Lumumba speaks to DW about her father’s legacy and the continuing relevance of his political message.
