"I used to play regularly and I came during the ’90s in the mud year. The first time I ever came – it was a lot more ramshackle back then – and I came in the tunnels that the Scousers used to dig underneath the thing. I came in the really bad mud year, so waded through mud up to there to see The Jesus and Mary Chain. It was awful, but I’ve been like 7, 8 times now, so this I would say is my ninth time but I have not been for a very long time."

"Yeah, I am going to get involved a bit. We saw Alanis Morissette and Busta Rhymes and I went and just saw a bunch of small stage stuff. But, every year I watch on TV and I feel super jealous that I’m not there, so I’m like I’m going to make everyone absolutely sick with jealousy basically."

McClure: "It’s the Rock and Roll Circus, yeah. There’s going to be us headlining, Groove Armada, Libertines, Lottery Winners, and bunch of others. We’ve got Day Fever there. The promoters are absolutely nuts there – they were like do what you want and get all your mates, so I’ve got like Nick from Pulp, Pete McKee who is like art laureate of Sheffield, Steve Davis and Jimmy White having a DJ battle with giant snooker balls, which is going to be mad, Lucy Beaumont the comedian is coming down. It’s going to be the best day to celebrate 20 years of Reverend and The Makers right, so I’m very humbled and it’s a joy to be asked to do it in a big park in Sheff (Sheffield), so it’s going to be great. We’ve sold a load of tickets."

"You get this thing, the 20 year rule where you’re fans early doors and then you go and have kids and then come back when they’ve got a babysitter and some disposable income – that’s literally me and my missus. So, they’ve all sort of returned. It’s joyous and it’s the records have been doing well on radio so I reckon I am Morgan Freeman in ‘The Shawshank Redemption’. I’m a lifer, I’m here for good like."

"Yeah, it’s been a bit of a protracted birth for this album because my dad died half way through doing it. I think he’d heard all the songs but he was a big music man, my dad, and he’d heard all the songs and he said ‘this is going to be your best record ever, son.’ So it is. I think it’s wonderful and i hope to think he’s be dead proud of us. At the Rock and Roll Circus in August we’ve got a Jon McClure senior bar, so we are going to have a little drink to him and put him of the big screen and all that, so it’s great man."

STORYLINE:
Reverend and The Makers frontman Jon McClure reflected on his Glastonbury experiences past and present on Saturday – the second day of the three-day music festival.
Instead of rain and mud, this year’s performers and revellers are having to deal with scorching temperatures.
But the heat isn’t stopping McClure from enjoying his festival experience.
