STORYLINE:
Tourists and local residents alike took to shaded areas and canals as the French capital sweltered in Europe’s heatwave on Monday.

Air conditioning remains relatively rare in France, so local and national authorities were taking extra effort to care for homeless and elderly people and people working outside.

Some tourists were putting off plans for some rigorous outdoor activities.

Misting stations doused passers-by along the Seine in the French capital.

For others, it remained business as usual but with frequent stops at the public sprinklers.

"Whether it is hot or not, Paris is still Paris," said Remy Levecke who is visiting from Belgium.

"We have come to visit and we just have to sort it out when it’s hot," he added.
