STORYLINE:
Greek firefighters raced to contain wildfire east of Athens on Thursday.
The wildfire near the port of Rafina, about 30 kilometers (20 miles) disrupted local ferry services to the islands.
Firefighters in Pikermi were seen dousing the smouldering remains trees, buildings and rubble with water.
Volunteer firefighter Harry Kalogeridis said they "did everything they could" to put out the wildfires.
“The firefighting planes and helicopters that arrived immediately did a great job, they lowered immensely the temperature and helped so much,” he added.
Summer wildfires are common Greece, where experts warn that climate change is intensifying conditions.
