Kenyan rights group: 31 people killed in nationwide protests | DW News

Kenya’s National Commission on Human Rights says it now believes at least 31 people died in nationwide anti-government demonstrations on Monday. Police reportedly opened fire at a charging crowd of protesters in the capital Nairobi, after a tense standoff. Hundreds of demonstrators were arrested. Authorities were deployed across the city ahead of demonstrations to mark the 35th anniversary of the bloody Saba Saba uprising, when Kenyans demanded a return to democracy.
