“Most motorists hitting the roadways this year for Independence Day will see much cheaper gas prices compared to last year. Last year in Michigan, the average on July 4th was $3.60 a gallon. This year, right now, currently, most Michigan motorists are paying an average of $3.19 a gallon.”

STORYLINE:
Millions of Americans are hitting the road, taking advantage of the Fourth of July falling on a Friday this year.
“So, AAA is forecasting that a record 72.2 million Americans will travel this Independence Day holiday, and that travel period constitutes June 28th through July 6th,” spokeswoman Adrienne Woodland (wood-LAND’) said.
According to the auto club, the 72.2 million figure represents an increase of 1.7 million travelers over last year and 7 million more than in 2019. AAA estimates 61.6 million Americans will drive.
Dusty Shultz was one of them. She and her husband were driving from near Traverse City, Michigan, to western Pennsylvania for a family reunion and to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
She noticed that traffic on Thursday was “heavy at some spots, but not really too unusual.”
