STORYLINE:
Balkans faced yet another wave of extreme heat, as stifling temperatures reached 38C on Friday in Bosnia’s capital.

Sarajevo’s residents looked for ways to keep cool by avoiding the blazing hot streets, walking only in the shade, and focusing on hydration.

The city’s river Miljacka has almost dried up completely due to lack of rainfall in nearly two months.

The forecast predicts cooler temperatures next Wednesday as the heat dome over the Balkans will move eastwards and be replaced with cooler air from north of Europe.

The Balkans is prone to extreme heat as its one of the regions most impacted by climate change.

Mild summers and cold winter have been replaced by extreme heat waves during summer and floods during winter, almost without any snowfall.
