Why Kenya’s Gen Z is protesting its government | DW News

Kenya has been rocked by anti-government protests since the government attempted to introduce a bill that would increase taxes on ordinary citizens. The unrest flared up again in June following the death of blogger Albert Ojwang while in police custody. Three police officers have since been charged with his murder, after initially claiming that Ojwang died from self-inflicted wounds. The majority of protesters belong to the so-called Generation Z. DW spoke with a protest leader to find out why young Kenyans are demanding political change despite facing violent state repression.
