“It’s hard on ’em. It’s very hard on ’em. I mean, they could have been there. It was hard on me when I thought about, oh gosh, that could have my kid. So, I am just thankful that they’re where they are and they were with us, and I’m thankful for everybody that got to get their kids home and just praying for the people that they don’t…their kids aren’t coming home.”

STORYLINE:
Jeff Rockow, 53, a chef and catering company owner from Dallas, has two daughters, 16-year-old Sage and 13-year-old Violet, who have been attending Camp Mystic for years and who wrapped up their stay in the Texas Hill Country about a week before the devastating floods.
“Both of my daughters were devastated and they just had a rough day,” Rockow said during a break as a volunteer assembling meals for first responders at a church in Kerrville.
“It’s hard on them. It’s very hard on them. I mean, they could have been there. It’s hard on me when I thought, ‘Oh gosh, that could have been my kids.’”
I’m just thankful that they’re where they are. I’m thankful for everybody that got to get their kids home and just praying for the people that don’t, their kids aren’t coming home.”
Rockow said his daughters’ experience at the camp has always been great and that they’ve made what he expects will be lifelong friends from all over Texas during their years there.
“Nah, I’ve not looked into it,” he said. “Have I ever thought about it? No, not really.”
