The original Birkin bag created by Hermès for Jane Birkin in 1984 is up for auction in Paris.
Sotheby’s expects the iconic bag to sell for hundreds of thousands of euros on Thursday.
The Birkin bag is a symbol of luxury which was born from a chance encounter between Birkin and former Hermès boss Jean-Louis Dumas, on a flight in the 1980s.
They got talking after she spilled some of her things on the cabin floor and Birkin sketched her ideal handbag on an airplane vomit bag.
The design became one of the world’s most exclusive accessories, with high prices and long waiting lists, cementing its place in fashion history.
