4. SOUNDBITE (English) Jim Mustian, AP Law Enforcement Reporter:
"The jury didn’t spend much time deliberating. It was only a few hours. They barely had time to eat I’m told by the foreperson of the jury. They did acquit Dr. Ho on one count of money laundering. The jury foreperson Margaret Withers tells me that that was because of some jurisdictional questions that they had about the evidence that was presented to them. They essentially concluded that a bribe that had been paid to the Chadian president had not been transferred through the United States."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Jim Mustian, AP Law Enforcement Reporter:
"That was one of the questions the jury grappled with during its brief deliberations was why a prominent Hong Kong businessman and former Secretary of Home Affairs in that country was standing trial here. And The Justice Department says the reason is that a lot of the actions in this case a lot of the meetings, the relevant wire transfers all occurred in Manhattan. Dr. Ho was a U.S. resident expected to pay taxes. Obviously did not declare these bribes that he paid on his taxes and was just a resident of Manhattan and made frequent trips to the United Nations."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Jim Mustian, AP Law Enforcement Reporter:
"So in all, Dr. Ho was accused of eight counts. There were five counts of violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act including one count of conspiring to violate that. And three counts of money laundering including one count of conspiring to money launder. The jury convicted him of seven of eight counts acquitted him of one count of money laundering."
