2. UPSOUND (English) Bob Geldof, recording artist/activist:
"I’m constantly asked, ‘Why not do a Live Aid for Palestine and stop that horror?’ And the thing is, pop music doesn’t do that anymore. Pop music back then was the spine of society and definited and articulated what we were and where we should go. That has been sublimated by social media these days, so a concert wouldn’t work. But the point about a concert is that you need to posit an end that is achievable. The end to Palestine, my answer always is the two state solution. The end to Palestine is to just f****** stop killing people."

3. UPSOUND (English) Midge Ure, recording artist/activist:
"It is very odd because after 40 years I get to have a microphone and speak. These guys are phenomenal, not just because they’re brilliant at what they do but as it is said in the performance you’ve just seen, they are the next generation. We are trying to hand on the baton which we helped each other create. It is phenomenal, I have to tell you the producers of the program, just before the doors opened today, asked Bob to not be political. Suffice to say, he lied."

4. UPSOUND (English) Bob Geldof, recording artist/activist:
"It’s not a celebration. I went to see Oasis last night and I said f***** hell, Jesus, and Liam is f****g giving it (does swaggering walk). I don’t have that Irish level of obstreperousness which he seems to radiate."

STORYLINE:
Bob Geldof and Midge Ure celebrated 40 years of Live Aid in London, Sunday evening.

The pair attended a special anniversary performance of "Just For One Day" – a musical which charts Live Aid from being a seed in the mind of Geldof, to a charity track, to a performance watched by billions worldwide.

The Live Aid shows – which took place in Philadelphia and London on 13 July 1985 – featured performances from the likes of Queen, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Elton John and many many more – with many tracks featured in the musical.

Taking to the stage at the show’s curtain call on Sunday, Geldof praised the cast and said he’d seen the show many times before. He also discussed why he thought Live Aid would not ne possible in 2025.

"I’m constantly asked, ‘Why not do a Live Aid for Palestine and stop that horror?’ And the thing is, pop music doesn’t do that anymore. Pop music back then was the spine of society and could articulate what we were and where we should go," he said.

"The end to Palestine, my answer always is the two state solution. The end to Palestine is to just f****** stop killing people," he added.

He also noted that he’d been to see another show over the weekend – Oasis in Manchester.

"Just for one Day" runs in London’s West End until January – with 10 percent of ticket sales going to the Live Aid charity fund.
