“Affected by the so-called reciprocal tariffs from the U.S., China-U.S. trade shifted from a year-on-year increase in the first quarter to a year-on-year decrease in the second quarter, with a decline of 20.8%. Recently, positive progress has been made in the economic and trade talks in Geneva and London, and the trade has rebounded. The import and export value in June rebounded from less than 300 billion yuan (USD 42 billion) in May to over 350 billion yuan (USD 43 billion), and the year-on-year decline also significantly narrowed.”

STORYLINE:
China’s exports accelerated in June as a reprieve on U.S. tariffs prompted a rush of orders by companies and consumers.
Exports climbed 5.8% from a year earlier, up from a 4.8% rise in May.
Imports also recovered, growing 1.1% in the first increase so far this year, according to customs data released Monday.
Vice Minister of China’s General Administration of Customs Wang Lingjun told a press conference in Beijing on Monday that China has been widening its "circle of friends."
Wang said China achieved growth in imports and exports to more than 190 countries and regions in the first half of this year.
Exports to the U.S. fell 16% but that was less than half the 34.5% drop seen in May.
After President Donald Trump imposed tariffs of up to 245% on imports from China and Beijing responded with its own steep import duties, the two sides agreed to hold back to allow time for talks.
Trade volume in June rebounded from less than 300 billion yuan (USD 42 billion) in May to over 350 billion yuan(USD 43 billion), Wang said.
But preliminary discussions between the two sides have yet to produce significant progress.
In the meantime, the Trump administration has hiked tariffs on imports from China by 35%, pending an August 12 deadline for reverting to the higher tariffs Washington and Beijing have delayed for now.
