“The U.S. president’s statement was quite serious. Something in it is addressed personally to President (Vladimir) Putin. We certainly need time to analyze what was said in Washington. If and when President Putin considers it necessary, he will comment on it.”

“It seems that such decisions made in Washington, in NATO countries and in Brussels are perceived by the Ukrainian side as a signal for continuing the war, not a signal for peace.”

“We haven’t yet received signals about the third round (of talks with Ukraine ) and it’s hard to say what the reason is. We are ready to continue the dialogue. They want to see this dialogue in Washington, they want to see it allegedly in Europe. However, statements signal that in Europe they want to see the escalation of hostilities rather than the transition to a peaceful regime. But Kyiv keeps silent.”
STORYLINE:
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday described U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to give Russia 50 days to end the conflict with Ukraine as "quite serious," adding that "we certainly need time to analyze what was said in Washington."
Trump said on Monday that he would implement “severe tariffs” on Moscow unless a peace deal is reached within 50 days.
He provided few details on how they would be implemented, but he described them as secondary tariffs, meaning they would target Russia’s trading partners in an effort to isolate Moscow in the global economy
Asked about those comments, Peskov said that Moscow was still anaylzing the statement and Russian President Vladimir Putin would speak himself "if and when he considers it necessary."
Peskov emphasized that Russia is open for continuing talks to end the fighting but was still waiting for Kyiv to offer a date for the next round of discussions.
“We are ready to continue the dialogue,” he said, adding that “we haven’t yet received signals about the third round and it’s hard to say what the reason is."
