3. SOUNDBITE (English) Lesli Harris, New Orleans City Council-member:
"Sometimes there’s flooding that happens that can reach people’s houses. This ensures that the water does not intrude into their homes or businesses and so we’re giving away about five sandbags each and this will help people survive and hopefully not flood during this tropical storm."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Erika Mann, CEO, Dryades YMCA:
"We open our doors and help the community when the community is in need. I can’t say that we could have done this without our leadership. She turned this around in a day once we knew that we could be impacted the way that we’ve been impacted and while it’s not going to be a big wind maker, everything that the weather center is saying is that it’s going to bring a lot of water and so when people are driving, they push the water and it goes under the doors of people. So these sandbags will help keep the water from going into people’s homes and so many thanks to our wonderful councilwoman for getting this sand out and and the volunteers that have all come. Some people came and they were coming in to get sandbags, they jumped out of their cars and they helped. And it just represents what New Orleans is about. We come together in crisis."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Jasmine Chaney, New Orleans East Resident:
"Whatever it’s gonna be it’s gonna be. It don’t make sense to stress about it. You know, stressing is not gonna do anything. Just prepare as much as you can get some water, some sandwich meat. I’m gonna actually go home and clean up in case my family have to come to my house because I have a generator and I’m gonna cook some meals, you know, to prep them, so that’s all."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Alex Trapps, New Orleans Resident:
"I just got back to New Orleans after many years of being away and my street flooded just the other day when we got a little bit of rain and so I want to just make sure that I’m proactive, you know."

"This is gonna be my first big storm since being here so I really don’t know but I listen to everybody else and so I’m just getting prepared the best way I know how."

STORYLINE:
A tropical weather system near the Florida Panhandle is showing a moderate chance of becoming a tropical depression.

The National Hurricane Center said Wednesday that the system could impact southeastern Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Heavy rain is expected, with New Orleans bracing for up to 10 inches in some areas through Saturday.

Flooding remains a major concern, regardless of storm development.

This system follows recent deadly floods in New York and New Jersey.

If it becomes a named storm, it would be Tropical Storm Dexter, the fourth storm in this year’s active Atlantic hurricane season.
