(2 Mar 1979) Crisis in the Italian Government feared as Pertini calls for meeting with La Malfa. Italian President Sandro Pertini caught everyone by surprise when he asked former President Giuseppe Saragat and recent Premier-designates Giulio Andreotti and Ugo La Malfa to meet with him. The meeting generated speculations that Sandro Pertini will ask Saragat to become Premier and designate Andreotti and La Malfa as vice-premiers to form the next Italian government. Ugo La Malfa speaks to reporters and later, along with Bettino Craxi, leader of the Italian Socialist party, Pietro Longo Party Secretary for the Italian Social Democrats and Oddo Biasini of the Republican Party, Benigo Zaccagnini of the Christian Democracy Party, Enrico Berlinguer of the Communist party gives a press conference.
