"Thank you all. I just had an opportunity to talk to the senior pastor here in Downey Memorial Community Church, I’m grateful that she allowed us the opportunity to be here in highlight a little bit of what occurred here, as you may know, in the parking lot a few weeks back when six folks came masked without any identification, unmarked cars."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Gov. Gavin Newsom, (D) California:
"And came into the parking lot demanding she got out of the way, demanding she not to film, demanding as if they were running the place, demanding she simply walk away. She knew her rights, she exercised her rights. I think it’s important to highlight that."

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Gov. Gavin Newsom, (D) California:
"They have 15 year employee, who won’t even show up to work. He’s here with documentation, but he’s scared to death, isn’t shown up in weeks since four raids occurred and nearby. He won’t even show up because he’s scared of death of being pulled over for simple reason, because of the way he looks, because he’s being racially profiled."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Gov. Gavin Newsom, (D) California:
"Finally, because of the absurdity of this, and the complete incapacity of the Pentagon to reconcile the fact they weren’t doing a damn thing, they manipulated this 26 percent number. It’s about 5 percent. They even realized the absurdity of this, and they’re talking about a demobilization of roughly 2,000 of the 79th infantry."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Gov. Gavin Newsom, (D) California:
"But we must be vigilant and resolved, that as we focus on Epstein, we focus on the next day or distraction, that communities like Bell and Downey are being torn apart."

STORYLINE:
California Governor Gavin Newsom told reporters families are being torn a part in the state as deportations continue across the country.
"The president of the United States decided to advance his rope cruelty by utilizing the brave men and women of the National Guard as Ponce in an effort to theatrically show his strength," Newsom said.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon said Tuesday it is ending the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops in Los Angeles, accounting for nearly half of the soldiers sent to the city to deal with protests over the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown.
Roughly 4,000 National Guard soldiers and 700 Marines have been in the city since early June. It wasn’t immediately clear what prompted the 60-day deployment to end suddenly, nor was it immediately clear how long the rest of the troops would stay in the region.
In late June, the top military commander in charge of troops deployed to LA had asked Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for 200 of them to be returned to wildfire fighting duty amid warnings from California Gov. Gavin Newsom that the Guard was understaffed as California entered peak wildfire season.
