2. SOUNDBITE (English) Radmila Shekerinska, NATO Deputy Secretary General:
"His appointment (referring to General Alexus Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander for Europe and Commander of the United States European Command) demonstrates the United States’ ironclad commitment to our shared security, as America continues to put forward its brightest and best in service of the United States of America, but also in the service of the alliance. At the summit we heard really strong statements from the US leadership. From President Trump, but also from the two secretaries and all the representatives. How dedicated and how committed they are, to NATO and to our collective defense. The US continues to stand four square with its NATO allies. Because it is good for America’s security, and it is vital for the transatlantic security."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Radmila Shekerinska, NATO Deputy Secretary General:
"Force posture is never a static thing. We always have these kinds of adjustments, because of threat assessments, because of circumstances that change. But what we have agreed since the beginning, is that any kind of changes will come after a process of consultation and discussion. And I will just refer to the answer that the SACEUR (Supreme Allied Commander Europe) gave, that he doesn’t have any indications in that respect now. But let me say that the commitment has been there. It was visible during the summit, and it remains very strong. And all allies have referred to the need for a US presence in the European continent, and they see this as part of our strong deterrence message to our adversaries."

STORYLINE:
NATO’s Deputy Secretary General has reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to the alliance, at a conference in Germany Thursday.
Radmila Shekerinska delivered a keynote address at the LANDEURO defense conference in Wiesbaden, where she pointed to the positive nature of June’s NATO summit, which largely bent to U.S. President Donald Trump’s will.
"At the summit we heard really strong statements from the US leadership… How dedicated and how committed they are, to NATO and to our collective defense," said Shekerinska.
"The US continues to stand four square with its NATO allies. Because it is good for America’s security, and it is vital for the transatlantic security," she added.
The June summit ended with most NATO member countries, except Spain, agreeing to significantly increase their defense spending, after Trump complained the U.S. shoulders too much of the burden.
The Republican president also affirmed his commitment to NATO’s mutual defense pledge.
