STORYLINE:
Argentina on Friday marked the anniversary of the Jewish community centre bombing with renewed calls for the perpetrators to face justice.
A massive explosion destroyed the headquarters of the Argentine Israeli Mutual Association (AMIA) in Buenos Aires on July 18, 1994.
The blast left 85 people dead and more than 300 injured, making it the worst attack in the history of Argentina.
President Javier Milei on Friday joined relatives of the victims and representatives of the Jewish community at a commemorative event.
"We won’t stop until justice is served," the right-wing president told them as he arrived at the reconstructed AMIA building.
Argentina determined that the attack against the Jewish center was carried out with a car bomb.
It blames former Iranian officials, who would have operated with the Lebanese terrorist organization Hezbollah.
Iran never accepted any responsibility or extradited the accused.
No arrests or convictions have been made, despite two trials against alleged local accomplices.
A judge last month ordered that the seven Iranians and three Lebanese citizens accused of involvement face trial in absentia for the first time.
Courts for years had ordered that the suspects be apprehended and brought before a judge because Argentina never allowed trials in absentia.
Past efforts to encourage foreign governments to arrest the suspects on the basis of Interpol red alerts never gained traction.
But Milei is a loyal ally of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a fierce critic of Iran.
Earlier this year, he pushed a bill through Congress that authorizes trials in absentia for fugitives that have long sought to evade justice.
The 1994 explosion came two years after an attack on the Israeli embassy in the Argentine capital, which killed 20 and injured 242.
The Argentine Jewish community is the largest in Latin America and the fifth largest in the world with some 230,000 people.
