Elon Musk warned of difficult times ahead for Tesla after one of the automaker’s worst quarters in over a decade. Tesla will be in a transition period for the next year or more, losing electric vehicle incentives in the US and needing time to roll out autonomous vehicles, the chief executive officer said. “We probably could have a few rough quarters,” Musk said. “But once you get to autonomy at scale in the second half of next year, certainly by the end of next year, I would be surprised if Tesla’s economics are not very compelling.”
In geopolitics, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told Chinese leader Xi Jinping that the bloc’s ties with his country “have reached an inflection point,” illustrating what’s at stake in their summit shadowed by tensions spanning trade to the war in Ukraine. “As our cooperation has deepened, so have the imbalances,” von der Leyen said on Thursday, according to her prepared remarks. The head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, called on China “to use its influence on Russia to respect the United Nations Charter and to bring an end of its war of aggression against Ukraine.”
