"I first heard this song at a club here in Mexico City. It was being mixed, and it just took me back—I had this vision and thought, ‘I have to sample this track.’ I mean, it’s incredible and so iconic, and I think it belongs to many generations. It was a hit back in the day, and having the chance to bring it into this new version feels amazing."

"I love comedy. I think it’s something I’ve explored since I was very little, and it’s also a big part of my personality. I’m very quick-witted and I love that I’m always… we’re always laughing. Comedy is important to me, and being able to take that drama and turn it into something humorous is really fun. I think the actor in me will always show up in my music videos, and today we’re once again playing with that actor side of myself in this video."

STORYLINE:
Mexican singer and actress Danna puts her acting chops front and center in the video for her latest single, ‘Khe Calor,’ a fiery reimagining of a song that’s long been popular in Mexico and across Latin America.
Originally released in 1999 by Spanish artist Conchi Cortez, ‘Toma que toma’ has also been covered by acts like Los Ángeles Azules and Karen Paola. Danna’s version began with a spark of inspiration one night on the dance floor.
"I first heard this song at a club here in Mexico City. It was being mixed, and it just took me back—I had this vision and thought, ‘I have to sample this track,’" Danna told The Associated Press in an interview.
Though she was only a kindergartener when the original came out, Danna says the track stayed with her—and reviving it in her own style was a way to tap into that nostalgia while delivering a bold summer anthem.
The video was filmed on a ranch in central Mexico and pays homage to classic melodramatic soap operas.
Danna plays the protagonist at the center of a love quadrangle, complete with horseback scenes, choreographed pop routines, and a storyline in which the fate of the crops depends on her bringing back the rain.
"I love comedy," she said. "I think it’s something I’ve explored since I was very little, and it’s also a big part of my personality… being able to take that drama and turn it into something humorous is really fun."
Danna, known to many for her childhood roles in Mexican telenovelas and later for the Netflix hit Elite, continues to evolve both as a performer and musician.
