STORYLINE:
Palestinians in Gaza had gathered along the Rashid coastal road, hoping to receive food from trucks possibly entering through the Zikim crossing. Instead, many returned empty-handed, or didn’t return at all.
“A bag of flour covered in blood and death. Here they are in Zikim, the martyrs, dismembered, being run over by trucks,” said Muhammad Issam, a displaced man from northern Gaza. “The truck driver is a participant in the crime, under orders to run over people and walk away. How long will this humiliation continue? Enough.”
Injured people were seen loaded onto car roofs, while other desperate people walked miles back from the Zikim area, but only some were clutching sacks of flour.
“My husband is traveling for treatment, and I have five children. We are dying of hunger,” said Iman Shabat, a displaced woman. “There is shooting and death, but I have to come because my children are hungry.”
