"I think the leverage that can be used to persuade the U.S. To act is not going to come from Europe. It’s going to from the Gulf states, principally from three Gulf states. From Qatar, from Saudi Arabia, and from the United Arab Emirates. President Trump has a very good relationship with the leaders of all three countries. Just mentioned, they have a huge amount of money that he’s interested in. Whereas he has a transactional approach to everything, I don’t think there’s that much that Europe can offer him. I think the Gulf states have an awful lot more to offer."

STORYLINE:
A UK-based Gaza analyst said Tuesday that EU countries’ latest condemnation of Israel’s action in Gaza is "long overdue" but a "good step in the right direction."
Britain threatened Tuesday to take further action against Israel if it does not agree to end the war in Gaza, a day after two dozen mostly European countries condemned Israel’s restrictions on aid shipments into the territory and the killings of hundreds of Palestinians trying to reach food.
Despite the increasingly strong words, many are sceptical that Israel will yield to such pressure without more significant punitive action — and especially without the backing of Germany and the U.S., Israel’s strongest Western allies.
