Turkey detains hundreds of Erdogan opponents as crackdown grows | DW News

In Turkey, the the main opposition CHP party is facing a widening crackdown. Back in March, Istanbul’s mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, was arrested and suspended from office over corruption allegations. That triggered a wave of mass protests. Since then, more than a dozen other CHP mayors and hundreds of their staff have been detained or jailed over similar allegations. President Erdogan’s government rejects claims the arrests are politically motivated. Our correspondent Julia Hahn has this report from Istanbul.
