New York police gathered in the Bronx Thursday morning to celebrate the life of slain officer Didarul Islam, who was killed in the shooting in Midtown Manhattan on Monday. Mayor Eric Adams arrived to pay his respects. At a vigil Wednesday night, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed her personal connection to the shooting. At Friday’s funeral, Tisch promoted Officer Islam to detective.
