Why tackling corruption is fundamental to Ukraine’s EU accession plans | DW News

On Thursday lawmakers in Kyiv repealed a law that they had just passed last week. The law in question would have undermined the independence of two key anti-corruption agencies. The measure raised eyebrows among Ukraine’s key Western allies and outraged Ukrainians, triggering the biggest protests seen since Russian’s invasion in 2022. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is hoping that the reversal of the bill might restore public confidence in the country’s fight against institutional corruption.
