1. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. John Kennedy, (R) Louisiana:
“Well, we need to get more food in. I understand Israel’s concern. Hamas, they have no cash flow anymore. They get no money from Hezbollah. They get money from Iran. So a lot of the money that Hamas makes, they take the food that’s meant for their people and they sell it, or they sell it back to their people at ridiculous prices. These are really bad people. And so Israel doesn’t want to help Hamas, but at the same time Israel doesn’t want people to starve to death. We’re going to help get the aid in, and I think it’ll be better soon. But Hamas has refused to negotiate. They don’t seem to want to cease fire. And I’ve always believed that Israel, regardless of what anybody else said, Israel is going to go in and destroy Hamas.”

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Rick Scott, (R) Florida:
“I’ve not been to Gaza, so until you get there, I guess you don’t know exactly what’s going on. But you don’t want people at war, you don’t want people starving at the same time, I’ve been over to Kfar Aza, in Israel, Kfar Aza, which is half a mile from Gaza. I watch what happened to people because of what Hamas did. It’s despicable. Hamas could end this today, they could release the hostages and drop their arms. I mean they could stop this. This is Hamas doing this. It’s not the Israelis doing it, it’s not somebody else doing it. It’s Hamas doing this to the people of Gaza.”

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Sen. Jacky Rosen, (D) Nevada:
“We have to be sure that we address the suffering in Gaza, that there’s innocent people, again, being tortured by Hamas and used by Hamas. We need to get that humanitarian aid in, relieve the suffering, and we have to find that path forward for the day after. We can and we must do all of it. And there’s a part in it for Israel, and there’s part in for Hamas, and there is a part to play for our partners and allies. And we’re going to keep moving forward.”

STORYLINE:
A new Gallup poll shows support for Israel’s military action in Gaza has dropped among U.S. adults, with only about one-third approving.
This marks a decline from the beginning of the war with Hamas, when about half of Americans approved of Israel’s action.
Senate Democrats are imploring President Donald Trump’s administration to step up its role in addressing suffering and starvation in Gaza, with more than 40 senators signing onto a letter Tuesday urging the resumption of ceasefire talks and sharply criticizing an Israeli-backed American organization that had been created to distribute food aid.
Sen. Jacky Rosen, (D) Nevada, says the suffering in Gaza needs to be addressed.
“We need to get that humanitarian aid in, relieve the suffering, and we have to find that path forward for the day after. We can and we must do all of it,” Rosen said.
Meanwhile, Sen. Rick Scott, (R) Florida says that you don’t want people at war, you don’t want people starving.
“I’ve not been to Gaza, so until you get there, I guess you don’t know exactly what’s going on. But you don’t want people at war, you don’t want people starving at the same time. I’ve been over to Kfar Aza, in Israel, Kfar Aza, which is half a mile from Gaza. I watch what happened to people because of what Hamas did. It’s despicable. Hamas could end this today,” Scott said.
