STORYLINE:
A huge plume of smoke was seen rising over the Gaza skyline on Wednesday.
It comes as at least 46 Palestinians were killed overnight into Wednesday morning, most of them among crowds seeking food, local hospitals said.
The Israeli military didn’t immediately comment on any of the strikes but says it only targets militants and blames civilian deaths on Hamas, because the group’s militants operate in densely populated areas.
On Tuesday the Palestinian death toll in Gaza passed 60,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Its count doesn’t distinguish between militants and civilians
Hamas trigged the war with its October 7, 2023, attack, on southern Israel in which Palestinian militants killed some 1,200 people and abducted 251 others.
They still hold 50 hostages, though Israel believes that more than half the remaining hostages are dead. Most of the rest were released in ceasefires or other deals.
