"So the challenge that I have is that while we’re doing everything that we can, to actually respond to the current wave of starvation in Gaza, the conditions that we have are not sufficient to actually make sure that we can break that wave. I’ve never seen a level of despair in terms of how people are now starving, how rate of malnutrition are now in Gaza. Never."

"We just released today what is called the Integrated Phase Classification Alert. It was an update, actually an alert, from the initial analysis that was done on the 12th of May. We were telling at that time that if the situation was not changing, improving, a quarter, sorry, half a million of people would actually be at the risk of famine. That was the 12th of May. Today, I confirm to you that there is half a million of people that are in famine-like conditions. This is the reality of what we see now on the ground."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Antoine Renard, WFP country director for Palestinian territories:
"So what we’ve been asking for is to have a hundred trucks every day into Gaza, coming from Karen Shalom or coming from Zikim in the north. These trucks have to be every day predictable. We need to have more roads to be able to get into Gaza. It shouldn’t be one single road. People are waiting for us. Massive crowd of population. We need also to make sure that there are no people with any armed groups or weapons around our convoys. We need to be able also to have more than just a surge of assistance."

"No one in Gaza currently is feeling safe. After 8 p.m, bombing is starting again. Population, our own staff, are not feeling safe. So, I think that beyond the assurances to bring volumes, it should actually be a long overdue ceasefire. That is the best assurance we could have, and then a more long-standing solution to the current conflict."
