"At night, Ukraine was again shelled, first by a drone attack, and then by a missile attack. The city of Kyiv suffered the most today. After a widespread drone attack, an hour later there were missile launches. Six missiles hit residential buildings, municipal facilities in the city of Kyiv, one of the missiles landed here in the Svyatoshynskyi district. We can definitely confirm six deaths, one of them a six-year-old boy, who was rescued, but doctors fought for his life for more than two hours, provided him with medical assistance, but unfortunately they did not save him. Four people have died at this location so far, but unfortunately, we see that there may be more victims. There are 56 apartments in this entrance, which is half destroyed and collapsed."

STORYLINE:
Russia attacked Ukraine’s capital with missiles and drones overnight, killing at least eight people, including a 6-year-old boy, and wounding 82 others, Ukrainian authorities said Thursday.
"One of those killed was a six-year-old boy, who was rescued, doctors fought for his life for more than two hours, provided him with medical assistance, but unfortunately they did not save him," said the Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.
Ten children, the youngest being a 5-month-old girl, were among the injured, Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko said.
A large part of a nine-story residential building collapsed after it was struck, he said.
Russia fired 309 Shahed and decoy drones, and eight Iskander-K cruise missiles overnight, the Ukrainian air force said.
Ukrainian air defenses intercepted and jammed 288 strike drones and three missiles. Five missiles and 21 drones struck targets.
Emergency services were seen combing through rubble in residential areas of Kyiv, searching for survivors.
One man was pulled out of the rubble and taken away for further treatment.
Yana Zhabborova, 35, a resident of a damaged building, woke up to the sound of thundering explosions, which blew off the doors and windows of her home.
She is a mother of two sons, a 5-month and a 5-year-old, who were crying after they heard explosions.
“There was a very strong explosion, glass was flying at me, everything was flying,” said Zhabborova.
The strikes came after U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he’s giving Russian President Vladimir Putin a shorter deadline — Aug. 8 — for peace efforts to make progress, or Washington will impose punitive sanctions and tariffs.
Western leaders have accused Putin of dragging his feet in U.S.-led peace efforts in an attempt to capture more Ukrainian land.
