“There is definitely is going to be a big impact, there going to be a big impact because the competing countries got 20% or less (of the tariffs) , 20% and less, they have got these rates and if it is 20% and less, and also, the (inaudible) countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, all those things that considered as a preferred country, they got a rate below us, makes it very difficult for the buyer or customers to come to India. Why they should have a really good reason why should they should come to India to buy paying more percentage than the other countries.”

“We know at the position of 25 (percentage of tariffs), we know what is the position now, but we are waiting for the more uncertainty of that penalty and other things. And they may say, no no the delegation is coming. They will come and solve. See, any delay, even a week delay in ascertaining this will going to be a big loss for us.”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Rafeeque Ahmed, chairperson of Indian footwear manufacturer Farida Group:
“We have a workforce of 22,000 workers today, mostly women, 85 percent women. And I had to feed on the 31st of March, 31st at the end of the month (July) I have a huge wage bill I have to pay, settle it with them. And they are all with us for so many years. And we know them very well. So, we are worried more than anything else that we had to meet that. If you don’t have the export coming up or stop, our cash flow gets out. So, we are worried what will happen next month. These are the kinds of things where the sensitivity of the exporter must be felt by the government.”

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Rafeeque Ahmed, chairperson of Indian footwear manufacturer Farida Group:
“Don’t know about India and U.S. relationship (Political relationship) , I cannot go (comment) about that. But up to business, and my business is concerned, my footwear and leather business is concerned, it is going to be a big, it will affect us badly. And the worst thing is that we are a labor-intensive industry, where in the end of the month I had to shell out a lot of money to the labor, wages and other things, where any slowdown is going to affect us very badly.”
