"It was an extremely important event that was carried out with the greatest success. This marks the first time Formula One has held an event of this nature in Puerto Rico. So I’m very happy that San Juan, like the top cities around the world, has hosted Formula One events. I hope this opens a door and serves as a platform for having additional events in the near future that attract thousands of people."

STORYLINE:
Puerto Rico hosted its first-ever Formula 1 exhibition event on the iconic Dos Hermanos Bridge in San Juan on Saturday, drawing thousands of spectators despite the rain.

Organized by global music star Bad Bunny and adidas Originals in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS, the event featured Mexican F1 driver Esteban Gutiérrez behind the wheel of a Mercedes race car.

City officials hope the event will be the first of many to bring visibility to the island and turn it into a global destination.

The crowds of Formula One fans started gathering along the closed-down bridge in the early hours of the morning.

Christian Ramos, who lives in Ponce, more than an hour away from San Juan, could not contain his excitement.

“Thanks to Bad Bunny and Adidas, who are bringing it, and I hope they continue to bring it, because look how packed it is here. We’re super happy and thrilled,” said Ramos.

After the event, the vehicles will be transported to the Coliseum as part of a special exhibition for attendees of the series of concerts by Bad Bunny to promote his new album “No Me Quiero Ir de Aqui” (I don’t want to leave here).
