STORYLINE:
Thousands of spectators lined Amsterdam’s historic canals to celebrate Canal Parade, one of Europe’s most colorful pride events.
Water jet dancers in Renaissance wear doing flips above the water and drag queens performing on top of boats – these were only some of the sights that the festival goers were lucky to see.
On both banks of the canal, spectator boats brimmed with attendees dressed in every colour of the rainbow cheering the parade on.
At least 80 brightly decorated boats were expected to participate, with passengers singing, dancing and waving.
Like pride events around the world this summer, the Amsterdam event came 50 years after a police raid of a gay bar in New York, the Stonewall Inn, set off riots and catalyzed the modern gay rights movement.
