STORYLINE:
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman says an IAEA official will visit Iran within the next 10 days, the first such visit to Iran after its nuclear sites were attacked by Israel and the United States in June.

"A visit by an IAEA official to Tehran will occur within less than 10 days," Esmail Baghaei, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, told a news conference in Tehran on Monday.

The 12-day air war by Israel and the U.S. severely damaged Iran’s nuclear sites and led to the deaths of nearly 1,100 people including military chiefs and commanders.

A ceasefire has been in force since shortly after the airstrikes targeted Iran’s major nuclear facilities.

Inspectors left Iran following the war, limiting the U.N nuclear watchdog ability to assess the damage and investigate the fate of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.

Bagahei also condemned the recent sanctions by the U.S against its shipping network that helps ship Iranian oil to China.

The U.S. Department of Treasury on Thursday imposed sanctions on a network of more than a dozen people and firms that are accused of facilitating the shipment of millions of barrels of Iranian oil to China.

The department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned more than dozen people and companies in China, India and the United Arab Emirates.

The targets include Iranian and Indian citizens, crew management firms and a collection of ships.

Baghaei said the move was against international law and disrupted free trade between countries.

He also called a recent visit by U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff to Gaza a "show".
